Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.
John 14:1
So I love it when God sends you what need when you need it. This was the verse for this morning's devotional from Pastor Jeff Wells. In light of all that is going on with Lizzy and all my fears, I thought this was perfect.
"I find this so tender of Jesus.
It is the final night before Jesus is crucified. His disciples are devastated. “Where is he going? Why is he going? I thought we would all launch the kingdom! What will happen to us?” They are overwhelmed, riddled with fear and confusion.
Tenderly, Jesus speaks directly to their fears. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God. Trust also in me.”
Jesus cares. He cares about your fears, my fears. He urges us to choose trust rather than worry, to choose faith rather than fear.
We have a choice about worry and fear. “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” We can choose. We don’t have to succumb to the fears that attack us. It’s not like we are in a strong river current and we’re pulled along against our will.
No, we choose faith. We choose trust.
When you are assailed by fears, pull out this verse and remind yourself of the words of Jesus. Words of trust, words of rest, words of peace.
Words to you."
